Ricky, a passionate advocate from Turkana County, joined forces with a small group of dedicated friends, all clad in bright yellow reflective vests and helmets to embark on an epic cycling journey from Lodwar to Mombasa. Their mission was clear: to raise awareness and funds for children with disabilities in Turkana, many of whom miss out on school due to lack of mobility aids like wheelchairs, tricycles, and bicycles. Pedaling through scorching deserts, rugged hills, and busy highways, the team pushed their limits day after day, encouraging each other with stories of the kids back home whose lives could be transformed by inclusive education and simple devices that grant independence.
As they rode together, stopping in villages to share their cause and speak to locals, Ricky and his friends formed an unbreakable bond, laughing through the exhaustion and celebrating small milestones like reaching a new town. The sight of the group with bikes loaded with banners reading "Enhancing Access to Education and Inclusion" inspired roadside cheers and donations, reminding them that every kilometer brought hope to vulnerable Turkana children. By the time the Indian Ocean breeze greeted them in Mombasa, their ride had not only highlighted the barriers faced by disabled youth but also sparked a wider movement for dignity, mobility, and equal opportunities in education.
On March 8th, ACTS Foundation Kenya proudly joined the world in celebrating International Women’s Day 2025, under the global theme: "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress. This year, we were honored to take part in the vibrant celebrations held at Cradle in Lodwar, organized in collaboration with government departments, civil society organizations, and local partners.
As an active member of the Gender Technical Working Group (TWG) in Turkana County, ACTS Foundation Kenya played a key role in supporting the day’s events activities. The TWG brought together stakeholders committed to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment through collaboration, engagement, and community action. The celebration was a colorful and powerful event featuring inspiring speeches from women leaders and participants, community groups centered on women’s leadership and economic empowerment.
